Isotopes and pH's

Postby LaNcE222 » Wed Nov 09, 2005 4:17 pm

My questions are:
1. what is an important characteristic about isotopes that allows them to be used in medicine and scientific research?
2. A liquid substance has a pH level of 4. What type of substance is it and if you wanted to raise its pH level, what would you have to do to it?
3.Suppose a person's stomach wall were irritated by an oversecretion of stomch acid(HCl). What would happen the the pH level in the stomach if the person took asprin. What if they took milk of magnesia? Which one is better? what is the difference in conclusions? Please answer specificly. THANKS A BUNCH!!!!!

Do your Homework.
If you are not sure tell us what you came up with, and we'll help, but we won't do it for you. Google's your friend (as well as Yahoo, and every search engine you like..)

Your text book is probably a good reference, or library?

At any rate isotopes release radioactive energy which can be observed with instruments. Therefore you can map internal organs, etc.

pH goes as follows: Anything above pH 7 = basic (OH- ions) anything below pH 7 = acidic (H+) ions. This is the basic view of pH but I'm sure it fits your needs.

Please also speak to your school's technology coordinator or equivalent(librarian maybe), most have the access codes to bypass the filters or to add exceptions.

Your school SHOULD be able to block keywords in the searches, and allow the students to have some use of search engines...at least mine did. It was funny though. "Breast" was blocked from searches, so we couldn't do any searches for reports on breast cancer. However, we could get to the KKK's main web page...

Well if you have access to this site, maybe you can look in the dictionnary. You will find the definition for both isotopes and pH. Starting from that you can figure out at least basic answers for your questions.

But we definitely won't do your homework for you. The point of homework is to make you work to learn, not to just to hand out assignment made by other. And now I have a Ph.D and I do not need to get marks at school, so I don't see why I would do your work for you.

Did you not read my reply? Do you need someone to write it down on paper for you?

A little belated I know but I beleive he meant the online dictionary that is a feature of this site rather than a text book.
