Enzymes catalase and peroxidaseI was wondering if anybody could tell me if either one are present in the liver and if so could they please explain their functions. I was also wondering if copper would have an effect on the enzymes function. Thanks.
catalase is present in liver. Its function is to break down H2O2 into H2O and O2. H2O2 is a harmful product that must be broken down.
Have a look at these for more. They might help: about271.html about299.html In your second question, what kind of effect are you asking about? It matters not how strait the gate

A quick search on medline and toxnet show that defects in Copper lead to oxidation problem in the liver. But it seems related to A problem with a CuZn dependant Superoxide dismutase (SOD), not with catalase or peroxidase.
SOD protects again oxidation by inacativating Superoxide ions which are a highly reactive oxygen species, but don not act on H2O2. HTH Patrick
