Isn't colicin an antibiotic? From what i know some strands of E.coli produce it...

Depends on what you call antibiotic
More seriously, colicin have such a narrow range of activity (They are mostly intraspecific, and there is a lot of resistance) that they cannot be used as antibiotic in medicine. But I can't give a more precise answer to the original post Patrick
Some strands of E.coli produce it to kill other strands...
