Alpha Defensins are a defensing microbicidal peptides. If biocides render microbes such as viruses harmless, how do microbicidals reduce ineffective of microbes

Microbicidal is defined as:
any biocidal compound or substance whose purpose
is to reduce the ineffective of microbes, such as viruses
or bacteria. One example is wood tar.

Biocidal is defined as:
chemical substance or microorganism
render harmless effect on any harmful organism by chemical or biological
means.
