Pruning

Postby mith on Wed Feb 23, 2005 12:51 am

We need moderators to prune useless threads or put them into an archive. Say 1 month inactivity.

That's a good idea Mithrilack... what do you think admin and other mods?

It looks like a good idea at the first sight but why do you think we should do that.
I mean we have already been moderating the forums.

I don't really see a reason why we should need to do that. Threads with the most recent activity are automatically moved to the top of the screen. Inactive threads by default make their way to the bottom.

If we leave the setup as is, people will still look at all the threads...in my other forums, no one really looks at archived threads.

Well then lets keep it that way... Now that I think about it, we really don't need to change anything.

For now there might not be much problems but on some other forums I heard that they needed to prune them because they might slow down the processes. But I guess we aren't that popular yet :).
About the archive though, I think it would be nice if we had them indexed by topic for example so ppl can refer to them.

Right now the forum is very fast, so i don't think prunning is needed. Besides we have very good (and expensive) hosting - it should be able to maintain its stability with data increase!
