Love is an illusion?

Postby NathanCroftonBond » Wed Nov 06, 2013 9:30 pm

Do you believe love is "just an illusion"? I read a few quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer and he believed so. Many of us seem to think of love as selfless and giving, but is it truly? Is the only purpose of love to propagate the survival of the species/genes? And if that is so should we devalue love?

I am fond of love, however I acknowledge that it has biological origins and stems from evolution.

I think you are right, it is biologically set up, linked and driven to the survival of the species, a reward for reproduction, I believe primates to a degree are able to love but don't have the empathy of their closest relatives, anyway really good question Nathan.
