biopiracy is the exploitation of natural resource without proper permission of the country
My scientific studies have afforded me great gratification; and I am convinced that it will not be long before the whole world acknowledges the results of my work.-Gregor Mendel
Re: What is biopiracy?Biopiracy is the illegal appropriation of life -- microorganisms, plants and animals (including humans) -- and the traditional cultural knowledge that accompanies it. Biopiracy is illegal because, in violation of international conventions and (where these exist) corresponding domestic laws, it does not recognize, respect or adequately compensate the rightful owners of the life forms appropriated or the traditional knowledge related to their propagation, use and commercial benefit. Biopiracy commonly operates through the application of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) (primarily patents) to genetic resources and traditional knowledge.
Biopiracy is apart of a larger problem whereby developing countries rich in biodiversity, are exploited by transnational corporations and industries that make use of these resources.
Biopiracy is of course an illegal practice it not only exploits a country's resources but also blocks its development
Biopiracy is apart of a bigger issue whereby developing nations full of bio-diversity, are utilized by transnational organizations and sectors that make use of these sources. In short wording, biopiracy that uses plant and animal species by declaring patents to limit their common use.
