Maing wet mounts

How to prepare a wet mound slide. The specimen is an onion skin.

Basically make it so the specimen is in the slide and fill up the excess space with water. Then cover with coverslip. I don't know why you would do this though if it's onion, you can view it normally I think.

Place a drop of water on the slide. Carefully place the onion skin in this drop of water. Make sure it does not fold over. If it does, use a probe to straighten it out. Take the coverslip and place the edge of it in the water to one side of the onion skin. Slowly lower the other side of the coverslip to the slide. This will reduce tha appearance of air bubbles in the water.

This is a common practise in biology in American schools, Mithrilhack, it teaches students how to properly use a microscope for future work.
