how to live and work with animals and forestsGood afternoon,
I'm a 26 y.o. italian physician having some doubt about the future. I like my work, but I miss the contact with nature and I think more and more often that I'd prefer to study animal behavior, botany or ecology... I'd like to travel around the world too. That's because I think that preserving the natural resources we have is the most important thing. Do you think that studying biology would be a good idea? Have you got some advice? Thank you very much, and sorry for my bad english... I'm trying to improve it! E
Re: how to live and work with animals and forests
what field are you in?
Re: how to live and work with animals and forestsI work as anesthetist, I'v begun the 2nd year of specialisation in Italy.
Just understanding about the finance situation, have you taken quite a bit of debt to finance your medical school eduction? If it is not cheap, you probably cannot just quit the medical profession altogether. I don't know much about medical school, but maybe you do not need the specialization and could become instead a general practitioner. Then, you do not need to keep paying tuition fees and could start practicing and start earning back the money to pay back debts. It also sounds like you may be burnt out with too much schooling/work, and a possible solution is to try to visit nature/parks/beach whenever you can. Tell yourself that you HAVE to visit nature once every 1 or 2 weeks. It is possible to have hobbies that involve Nature/ecology/botany, but the key thing is you need the time and really do it instead of just thinking about it.
It is very laudable to care about our environment and to do something about it.
Now, as a physician, in order to become a biologist/ecologist, you still would have to study on for a couple of years. When finishing your studies, it will still not be sure to receive a job in that field of animal behavior, botany or ecology. These jobs are much fewer and than the job of a medical doctor and they are also far less well paid. My advice is, be a good medical doctor, try to educate people around you about the necessity of keeping our environment in good shape, and as a hobby take up any of your desired field of biology. Even as an "amateur" ecologist, botanist, etc. one can achieve a lot.
Re: how to live and work with animals and forestsThank you so much, I'll think about what you said. My issue is that I'm really concerned about the future of the Earth..
