Stem cells/Gene therapy and Testosterone Enhancement

Hi, I was wondering what future treatments using stem cells or gene therapy could be applied to increase males testosterone production. Thus overcoming many of the problems associated with old age and hypogonadism etc. As we still seem to be in the dark ages of simply putting exogenous testosterone into patients or using drugs with very short term effects.

So far I can only think of gene therapy that would increase the number of LH receptors on the leydigg cells in the testis or introducing genes into the hippocampus which are responsible for producing Gonadotropin-releasing hormone. If anyone has any ideas of possible treatments, It would be really appreciated. As well as alternative angles to attack this problem.

Also can anyone find any studies or researchers currently working on this problem or something similar. I've looked but found nothing, even though I believe this is a huge area interest to just about every male on the planet and would have countless applications in improving male health.

The question is what is the primary cause. Is it release of the hormones in brain? Is it decreased sensitivity to these hormones in testicles? Is it decreased production of testosterone? One of these (or something else) starts as very first and with that you should start.
