Getting a biology job with no degree..So I was wondering if I could find a biology job with no biology degree. Due to financial aid cutting me off early I couldn't aquire my Molec Bio degree and had to settle with my Eastern european studies bachelors. I do have some experience tho. While in school I worked in the department of opthamology on research for a year. I also worked in a lab where we did research on algae growth for bio-fuels. So I have a ton of experience with mixing solutions and using various equipment.
I was hoping I would be able to get a job testing the quality of water around my region in the forests and residential areas... thanks for the help
Re: Getting a biology job with no degree..A degree of any kind is valuable. It indicates that you can think. Do what JackBean suggests.
Re: Getting a biology job with no degree..Actually I was thinking and since I completed the general and organic chemistry series, I am actually only 2 classes away from an associates degree in chemistry. Do you guys think that would be worth pursuing?
Also since I am much closer to bachelors in chemistry, do you guys think I should stick with Chemistry and get a bachelors in that or would it be more beneficial to pursue a biology degree, (which would take much longer for me). Thanks again for the info
why changing completely subject, what about biochemistry? In Czech you have to complete some chemistry stuff (which you already have) and get some more biology/biochemistry related things, which you could do.

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
Re: Getting a biology job with no degree..I don't think you HAVE to have a degree in Biology to get a job in biology. Not sure exactly what you are looking to do. There are a lot of places out there that will take experience over education, however. You just have to get your foot in the door somewhere. Can you consult in the biology industry? Maybe start your own business doing consulting on business processes for biology type businesses. I have a friend that runs a consulting firm that does like $1mm per year and he simply consults with restaurant owners... the funny thing? My friend has never ever ever owned or even really worked in the restaurant industry. He just knows the industry and business principles and makes money consulting. Try to think outside the box. You got some education you got a leg up on some folks.
I'm an undergrad and self taught bioinformatician. I am paid by my biology department as a consultant to do research. Due to complicated paper work which I don't understand, this is the only 'title' I can be paid under.
I volunteered here first. I developed a good relationship with my principle investigator, and after a few months we were able to arrange for me to get paid. Its certainly not easy. The PI you are working with must recognize (and be able to justify to the department) that you are an essential asset, and not easily replaced by degree-holding applicants. This is the extent of my experience in the matter.
