Immunologic Memory

Would someone happen to know why if you perform an adoptive transfer, the immunologic memory decreases as time passes by? For example, if you exposed the anitbody to an antigen right away, the immune is rapid. But, if you expose the antibodies to an antigen like 12 weeks later, the immune response rapidly decreases?
