finding out if resistance is from mutation or hybridization?Hi!
I'm new here I hope someone can help me! I have this question: "When you start to grow imid resistant rice and control weeds in the field with imid, it is very efficient against socalled weedy rice, which is another type of rice (Oryza sativa). After a few years of culture, however, imid resistant types of weedy rice start to appear. How do you find out if this resistance is due ot new mutations in the weedy rice or the mutated gene from the cultivated imid resistant rice that has been transferred by hybridization?" What line of methods or method should be used to find this out? Thanks a lot!! Nicholas
In the mutation there's a microsatellite TATATATA(this gives the resistance), that
isn't in the wildtype. Could a Southern blot be used to test for this microsat? If so, how would we know if it was weedy rices own mutation, or if it were from hybridization? Thanks! Nicholas
