ordinary blood transfusion vs plasma transfusion

Hi All

I don't know much about biology, so please excuse me if the question seems too trivial.

I remember that in school we were taught that somebody with blood type AB+ can receive blood from all blood types. Today I learned that AB+ blood type can receive plasma only from AB+ and AB-.
Now here is my question, as far as I know plasma is a part of blood, so in ordinary blood transfusion the receiver gets not only the blood cells but also the plasma, so in an ordinary blood transfusion for somebody with blood type AB+ he or she receives not only the blood cells but also the plasma, so why can't someone with blood type AB+ receive plasma from other blood types too?

People with type AB blood cannot have antibodies for either A or B antigens (the +/- is to do with hypersensitivity and doesn't immediately affect this) in their plasma or they'd kill their own cells! Therefore they can receive blood from A, B, AB or O because none of these will be killed off by their immune system.
I expect there was a slight misunderstanding somewhere!
