Membrane proteinsDear All,
I am doing some literature search, trying to find a biological system that is similar to a purely physical system that I am working on. As a physicist, I am a bit lost in terms of the sources to consult! I am trying to find information of a hypothetical membrane protein, basically to see if something like it does actually exists. The protein would be a hollow capsule containing a tethered polymer chain inside, that is released, for example to anchor to a substrate or for recognition purposes. I would be thrilled if someone can point in me the right direction to look for it! Best, Poroto
Re: Membrane proteinsHola, I don´t know if this could be that you search. Look in google images about protein G coupled receptors or chemokine receptors. These are transmembrane proteins with areas in both sides in that the union of ligand in the external side promotes a conformotioal change which actives the internal side. Sorry if I don´t give you more details, but i would have to refresh my concepts. Buena suerte
poroto: I think you're looking rather for something like sodium channel, which has a plug closing the channel after prolonged functioning. Thus, it does actually the opposite, what you probably want, but it could work as a model for you

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
Membrane proteins:Location, quantitative specificationHi friends, I am new here. Could anyone name the methods for the location of membrane proteins and their quantitative specification?
you mean probably methods for determination of protein localization, rigth? Some of them are:
imunodetection with electron microscope activity staining with optical microscope fluorescent protein tags colocalization with other proteins (but that's basically the previous) http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
