Interesting question

Hi guys. As much as I would have liked to type this out the diagram didn't permit me to do it. This is an examination question I'm getting a bit of trouble trying to figure out. From what i see, there is crossing over occurring at multiple places. What I'm thinking is that the chromatids from top to bottom should be :

A b c D e F G h
a B C d E f g H
A B C D e f g h

My reasoning behind it is that they say it is reconnecting to the opposing chromatid. But I'm not sure, please help me out. Thanks.

you have just gone around the lines, but didn't follow the markes. I think you should follow the marks to see the chromosomes

well, that would be the chromosomes in the original state, with all the alleles being uniform (either common letters or capital letters). They asked for it after the interaction, which means there should be a mix.

I see now. I thought, the original chromosomes were on one line...

Then you should have it OK.

Well, your answer seems correct. But, can this question be this much easy?! So, I tried to find another answer by applying that assumption: Start with a chromotide line and when you face an intersection follow the line which is not a part of neither the original chromatide nor its sister chromatide. In this reasioning the answer is:

1. a b c d e F G h
2. A b c D E F G H
3. a B C d e f g h
4. A B C D E f g H

As a possible checking of its accuracy, there are always 2 upper-cases and 2 lower-cases for each letter.

So, what do you think?
