Green Flourescent Protein & Cadherins

Hello. I saw a garland science video of epithelial cells whose cadherins had the GFP so that whenever junctions were formed between the two cells, we could observe the GFP's florescence.

What was going on here? How was the GFP fused with the production of cadherins? Is it a simple procedure or does it involve certain complications? Can you please give me more information on this?

I guess the cells were transformed with cadherin fused with GFP
