Lots of questions of heredityHello, twelve questions
1. What is a particular phenotypic character. Refers to the physical appearance as opposed to the mode of appearance. For an example, blonde hair rather than hair color. 2. What is the position of a gene on a chromosome called? 3. What is any cross between an offspring and one of its parents. 4. What is the phenomenon of multiple effects by one gene? Polygeny. 5. What is a diagnostic cross involving breeding with a recessive with known genotype? Dihybrid 6. What is a chromosome that is not a sex chromosome? Somatic. 7. What is the study of the heritable changes that occur without involving changes in the DNA sequence? 8. What is the acquisition of characteristics by the transfer of genetic info from one generation to another? 9. What is the allele that expresses its characteristics only when it is in the homozygous combination? 10. What is the alleles for a gene where there are more than two alleles? Multiple alleles 11. What is an inheritance pattern in which both alleles in a heterozygous combination contribute to the phenotype? Collaboration 12. What is the term to describe genes that are located on the same chromosome? Homologue These should all be one term
Julie: I think they mean back-cross
4. no, polygeny is one trait caused by several genes 5. I don't think so 6. yes 7. epigenetics 8. heredity? Probably not... 10. not sure, what you mean 11. I think there can be more, like codominance etc. (but not collaboration) 12. no http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
Re: Lots of questions of heredityI'll just answer the ones that aren't answered yet.
1. Any description of a trait, such as green eyes (eye color), brown hair (hair color), tall stature (height), etc. 2. The position of a gene in the chromosome is it's locus (plural-locii). 3. An allele that's only expressed when in a homozygous position would be the recessive allele of a trait. If in a heterozygous position with the dominant allele, the dominant allele would mask the recessive allele and the dominant trait would be expressed.
Re: Lots of questions of heredityHaha sorry.
What I referred to as #3, I meant for #9. Sorry for the confusion.
1. BLUE EYES
2.LOCUS 3.BACK CROSS 4.NO,Polygeny is a gene interaction in which a single characteristic may be controlled by more than one gene... the ans is PLEIOTROPY 6.YES 7.EPIGENETICS 8.HERIDITY i hope so... nt sure of it..... 10.S I HOPE SO 12.LINKED Last edited by silviya on Tue Dec 07, 2010 8:58 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Lots of questions of heredityAnswer no. 6 can also be Autosome..
