Please help me put these terms into the correct category- DNA Replication
- Crossing Over - Metaphase II --> Anaphase II - Fertilization Each of these go into three different categorizes: 1.) Heredity only 2.) Genetic variation only 3.) Both
Re:Sorry, I miswrote that, it should be
Are you sure, that mutations should be omitted? http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
My opinion is mutation will occur, but we got mutation repair system as well, majority of the mutation will be repair, otherwise many people will have genetic disorder or become mutant. One of the purpose of DNA replication is to replace old cell, so the newly replicated DNA should not has variation.
About fertilization, what come up in my mind is the fetus formed is combination of male and female genetic material, but the fetus may not show exactly the same as their parents. Taking example of calico cat in dosage compensation. The calico cat can has both parents that is not calico cat and the mechanism that control this occurred after the fusion of gametes.
OK? but the process of fertilization by itself does not introduce any variation at all.
If there were no mutations during replication, you would have no change at all. http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
