dilution of solutions

Postby Jonas331 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:54 pm

Hi, i am in dire need of help
I have a stock solution with the volume of 20ul and final concentration of 50mm. I diluted this stock concentration by a factor of 10, by adding 180ul of media (1:10 dilution). So that the final concentration is 5mm wtih a volume of 200ul.

From this 200ul (5mm concentration) i need to pipette out the following concentrations, 5um, 10 um, 15um, 30um. I am struggling to work out the volumes i would need to pipette out of my 200ul stock to achieve these 4 concentration.
Can anyone tell me what volumes i need to pipette out to have a concentration of 5um, 10um and so on.

any help, suggestion VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
Thanks

1) read the Forum rules first! And behave in accordance or you will be warned or banned!
about6205.html

2) you can't pipette concentration. You can either pipette some amount of substance (in moles) or add some volume of your solution to water to make some dilution.

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

(initial concentration) x (initial volume)=(final concentration) x (final volume)

you may want to read to rules or you will end up like here: about18267.html and in topics listed there.

Anyway, I think there has been given enough clues.

Listen Jackbean, i appreciate your advise about reading the rules and i apologised for my caps filled title which you changed for me. I get it, i get the rules, you dont need to tell me again. I wanted help with a problem that i was goin in a circle about and the way i wrote the post was how i was thinking about it in my head and thought someone could help me.

But like you said, enough clues has been given, thanks.
