Washed up on the beach - Can anyone identify?

My family and I were on vacation at the beach (Myrtle Beach, SC, US), and found this washed up on the beach. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Looks sort of like a hunk of store-bought meat. My dad brought home one like that once.

It does look quite a bit like a pineapple, but I think you'd know right. Is it a turtle shell? If not, who knows. Looks like it could be something rotten though...
