How would you confirm extra chromosomal inheritance ?Hello everybody , I would like know the answer of the following question that probably what are the ways by which one can confirm extra chromosomal inheritance ?
You mean having extra chromosomes (like some trisomy) or having the info on non-chromosomal DNA? Maybe in mitochondria?
For the first case look for karyotype, for the second for the inheritance pattern. It would also help, if you wrote organism (at least prokaryota/eukaryota, multi/unicellular) http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
Re: How would you confirm extra chromosomal inheritance ?I was asking in context of plants , but i would be glad if you briefly explain with some brief example for both eukaryote as well as prokaryotes. Some other technique except karyotyping like i mean to say some kind of cross studies or somatic hybridization studies and then comparing the results with our desired organism( in case of plants especially)
Extra chromosomal inheritance refers to cytoplasmic inheritance. in certain organisms, some characters are controlled by genes present in the cytoplasm.Here, the mother's cytoplasm is inherited and hence the offspring shows certain characters like the mother. For example, shell coiling in snails shows cytoplasmic inheritance.
