Postby scienceclub » Fri May 14, 2010 1:00 pm

Hello Everyone!!! I'm a new member. Anyway, I want to know what the largest macromolecule is. This question is in my examination TT. Thank you for every answer ^W^ :D :D :D

PS. I want to know how to measure too. thank you very much krub :D

I guess, you had some options, right? What about DNA?

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

DNA is a nucleic acid that has double helix of polynucleotide. It consists of Nitrogenous base, phosphate group and deoxyribose sugar. I had searched the answer for this question and its answer is Nucleic acid. But I want to know why? I had opened so many books. But I've just graduate grade 9.I don't know much about Biochemistry. I don't know how to compare the size of molecule. Pls suggest me :) :) thank you very much.

well, let's say, that amino acid and nucleotide are approx. of the same size. Typical protein can contain about 1000 amino acids. DNA molecule contains at least several millions of base pairs ;)

wow! I see. So protein has about 1000 amino acid (monomer), DNA has about millions nucleotide(monomer). That's it. Wow thank you very muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :D

PS. I wonder how amino acid size is approx nucleotide size. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

well, proteins have usually less than 1000, but some have more, so I wrote 1000...

what did you mean by your PS?

You said that amino acid size is about nucleotide size. I want to know how to measure their size.

meaning the molecular mass, I think, that the average molecular masses of AA and nucleotides are 130 and 140, respectively.
