grafting and chromosomes

In a plant grafting is done and the stock has 48 chromosomes and scion has 24 chromosomes . Then the no. of chriomosomes in a root cell and in egg of stock and scion respectively is........???

That's a question as it is from a competition book.
May be there's a misprint .

Let's take it as the cell of resultant hybrid.
Then the no. of chromosomes in that cell of resultant hybrid is.....???

With all respect, I don't think that is the answer. I didn't read the article, but I think they didn't provide any accurate numbering, did they?

Well, what do you think the answer is agent007? At least try to attempt it, and then we can see how to help you answer this question.

(The article is irrelevant to your question though, as it is an exception to the rule, and I am thinking that you are just wanting to know the rules first).
