can anyon help me in obtianing data in an aquatic ecosystem

Postby eason123deng » Sun Apr 18, 2010 1:17 pm

i am a high school students, and I built a aquatic ecsosytem, which is consisted of 2 common pleco fishes, gravels, one aquatic plant. I have to obtain some quantative and qualitative data about this ecosystem. I can not use one of those test kits, i have to obtian data through chemical reactions or other means.
a) How can i measure the concentration of CO2 present in the aquarium? CO2 + H2O --->H2CO3----> H+ + HCO3-
If i know the pH of the ecosystem, how can i meansure the CO2 present in the aquarium.
b) How can i measure the concentration of Cl ions/NH3/O2 concentration in the ecosystem?
For chloride ion, i think i will precipitate the Cl useing AgNO3, but how can i measure the concentration of Cl using the precipitation?
For NH3 and O2, i have no idea how to measure the concentraion.

Can anyone please give me ideas and suggestions about how i should measure the concetration of CO2,[NH3],[Cl],[O2]in the water without using test kits.

Look into basic textbook of Analytical chemistry, that's nothing difficult

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
