Smooth endoplasmic reticulumHey just been pondering over this question for a while some help would be greatly appreciated.
"Under what circumstances would you expect a cell to increase the amount of its smooth endoplasmic reticulum?" So my ideas = Increase in presence of drugs/poisons as the Smooth ER has the function of detoxifying drugs and poisons, a cell such as a liver cell will thus require a lot more Smooth ER in these types of conditions (to prevent damage) cant think iof much more thanks alot
Ah sounds good, um Smooth ER also stores Ca+ ions, could we relate something to muscular action?
And any tips on the structuring of my answer cheers
if its used as Ca2+ store (i aint sure of that) then it can be used in muscle cells, Beta cells of islets of langerhaans and at pre synaptic knobs.
it isn't what you do that matters but it is how you do it
i don't think fast growing cells have an enlarged smooth ER..
Though hepatocytes and myocytes are good examples "As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
