Need Easy Questions For Biology Midterm Answered

Postby BrioCloud » Mon Feb 01, 2010 5:48 am

Hi. I am a student at UC Davis and am taking a basic biology class.I am trying to study hard to become a biology teacher. I just need some questions answered, they are made a bit curve ball. I know the basic information, but there are some application issues that I am having trouble with. I have the midterm tomorrow so I'd really need them answered quickly. I am rewording some multiple choice questions into just a question.

1. I know that hydrogen bonding is responsible for the secondary structure of a protein. Making it twist and bend. But is it then responsible for the tertiary and quaternary structure?

2. Is the tertiary structure still a single polypeptide change, while the quarternary structure includes multiple polypeptide chains?

3. A molecule formed by ionic bonding can, but not always, gain or loose an electron or electrons. True, or false? (I don't get this one. I know an ionic bond is one molecule giving up one or more of it's electrons to another, is that what it means? Also, when it gives it up, it still "sticks" to the molecule which took it right?

4. Which intracellular structure is the site of sequencing of (linking) amino acids to make a protein or polypeptide molecule? Is it, ribosomes, and rough endoplasmic reticulum?

5. I know that plasmids are small circles of DNA that carries a few genes. Since it has DNA it is only found in eukaryotes only? But my choices does not have that option.

6. Estrogen and testosterone are examples of? A. Proteins, B. Fatty acids, or C. molecules derived from cholesterol.

7. Statement #1: The rough endoplasmic reticulum modifies protein structure and also makes protein molecules for export from cell.

Statement #2: The smooth endoplasmic reticulum synthesizes lipid molecules that can be used in membranes.

a. Both Statements are true. c. Only the first Statement is true.
b. Both Statements are false. d. Only the second Statement is true.

8. The endoplasmic reticulum is an extension of the nuclear envelope surrounding the nuclear pores and provides a pathway for movement of molecules between the interior of the nucleus and the cytoplasm.
a. True b. False

9. Most of the harvesting of energy stored in covalent bonds of organic molecules in both
prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells occurs in their mitochondria.
a. True b. False

I'm sorry to ask so many questions. Help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

You better read these first:

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
