DNA ligation

Postby Chem_mystery » Sun Jul 10, 2005 7:56 am

Hi... I need some help.
During DNA ligation using the DNA ligase, T4 DNA ligase, why must Mg2+ be added as a cofactor???

I don't know if this is the explanation you want to know but it's not something special for DNA ligase. Most enzymes need coenzymes or cofactors to become active.
Was that what you are trying to ask or something different? If something different let us know, so we can try to help you. :)

dear enzymes require cofactors for 2 purposes,1-for theis structural stability and for activity.1 of these 2 may b served by mg+.as it is required for taq polymerase also.
all,the best.
