Cloning: Preserving DNA of a dead eagle

Would like to preserve the DNA for the long term for perhaps future cloning.
I read on the news a 100 year old or something Tasmanian tiger that was preserved simply in ethanol, still has viable DNA in it.

Which would be better for preserving DNA:

A jar of ethanol + dry ice (to create a very cold liquid) (would the dry ice remain solid in the ethanol or would it be prone to disperse into the ethanol and dilute it due to room temperature or a hot day?)


A jar of 98% ethanol (better bacteria destroying properties?)


Something else

P.S: I do not want the high upkeep and management of liquid nitrogen (it loses about half a liter a day?), so these are the other options I am looking at Thanks!

If will you keep it at room temperature, than you will lose even the solid CO2, so the question is, whether you wish to cool it or keep it at RT. I think formaldehyde solution is usually used for animal preservation, isn't it? Althrought that will probably affect the DNA...

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

Sequence the genome, make redundant copies digitally. Or you can just freeze it.
