Electron Transport Chain and O2 Debt and LA fermentation?I understand that we experience an oxygen debt when we do strenous exercise but how is that related to the ETC?LIek do we start using up the oxygen molecules fast...If yes ,then what does LActic acid fermentation play a role..
I know that lactic acid fermentation recharges NAD+..which goes to the Electron transport chain.. I searched it up I could never find the realationship between ETC,LA fermentation and oxygen debt? Thank you very much
during strenous exercise there is not enough oxygen (it just cannot be delivered that fast). Therefore you need another way than the ETC to make ATP. Glycolysis is the alternative. However, glycolysis (I think it is reaction 6) needs oxidized NAD+ to be able to go forward. Lactic acid fermentation is just a way to re-oxidize the NADH.
Normally, you don't need to do this because you use the NADH in the ETC, but because in exercise the ETC cannot operate you need some way to renew your stock of NAD+. Does that make sense? Thank you it makes alot of sense now...but odes that mean under physical exercise we never undergoe aerobic respiration..we immediately turn to lactic acid fermentation..like do we do aerobic for sometime while exercising then when we are in need of oxygen then we experience LA fermentation..
THanx alot
yeah pretty much. you do aerobic respiration for a little while, but then the oxygen runs out

Basically, you do the aerobic metabolism all the time a little. I guess, you don't stop breathing, when you do some exercise

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
very funny jackbean. i was referring to the skeletal muscle. obviously the brain does 100% aerobic all the time

Re: Electron Transport Chain and O2 Debt and LA fermentation? What is aerobic respiration anyway?
