with the addiction of anything, it's usually associated with some kind of receptor substrate binding issue in the nerve cells of the brain. Well thats the biochem explanation, you can go look up physiology part.

i have a not too biological reason.
when someone drinks alcoholthe brains stops working to a certain extent. he reaches a thoughtless state basically a meditative one. in which he is in a state of happiness all his worrries and stress are gone. this experience is what drags everyone back to drinking yet again and again
i surprise everyone. even god.

addiction is defined as taking the drug even in the face of harmful consequences i.e. there's a physical dependence on the drug. This occurs when you drink too much overstimulating the GABA response and inducing an equally strong glutamate response. When the alcohol leaves, the glutamate response still persists and causes withdrawal symptoms. Continued use is usually a way to stem the withdrawal symptoms rather than simply a need to get high again.
