spurts of exhaustion during excersizing

it's very surprising phenomenon that i do not understand.
when i play football after 3-4 minutes iseem to get extremly tired and exhausted and if i continue playing i stretch and play a very good and active game for uptil 2 another hours. i have surveyed a few people and seen the same. the only conclusion that i derived is that a player with lesser stamina gets this exhaution spurt before me. and vice versa. there are 2 questions
1. why does a person get this spurt.
2. is the feeling of tiredness another spurt which can be surpassed.
this is a general observation. it can be tried out by anyone.
it isn't what you do that matters but it is how you do it

Thta's an interesting question. I've noticed (and still notice) the same when I play football (or any other such sport).

I'm not sure what the correct answer is, though, so if you manage to find it please let us know!

However, this is my educated guess: When you start a demanding physical exercise (such as a ball game), your body first consumes mostly it's "quick energy" resources such as muscle glycogen and creatine phosphate or whatever those stuff were. Then, when the physical activity continues, the body needs to start to utilise its other resources more efficiently, first the liver glycogen and later also fats.

Perhaps there is this short delay in the start of this process and there's a kind of energy shortage for a moment before the glycogen from the liver is freed and reaches the muscles. Also some other events probably take place simulatneously that contribute to this "exhaustion spurt". And perhaps people who have trained more and have better stamina are also better adapted to this, so they experience the phenomenon later and it affects them less.

But anyway that was mostly a guess, so if somebody knows better, shoot :)

I agree with you, biohazard, for sure it's due to source change during exercise. But also, your body needs to recognise, that it should start to use fat instead of glycogen, so also release of such hormones will mean some delay ;)
On the other hand, I don't think, that usage of liver glycogen would need some delay, as it is degraded continously in accordance to glucose blood level.
Regarding the trainned people, those will probably have larger supplies of the muscle glycogen, as their muscles are trainner for exercise

Yeah, I know that the body uses all its energy sources simultaneously, even fat is being burnt continuously - it's all about dynamics, whether there's more burning than synthesis and so on. So, I agree with you in what you said that there might be a small delay in the increase of hormone and other mediator synthesis. This in turn would maybe increase the usage of glycogen from the liver and later also the percentage of fats. But what comes to the sudden feeling of exhaustion after several minutes of excercise it probably has little to do with fats, because they play a major role in energy prodcution only after a prolonged excercise (after around 90 to 120 mins of excercise and onwards iirc).

So I'd guess it's about exhaustion of some limited source of energy (CP, muscle glycogen or such), maybe coupled with the sudden increase with oxygen consumption, which the body also needs to deal with. And it takes a while from the body to fully utilise its next-in-line energy resources. Or something along these lines anyway :)
