Catabolism/Anabolism question and Energy MetabolismIs it safe to assume that catabolic reactions are always exergonic and anabolic reactions are always endergonic?

No, it will be (probably) the first choice - the multi-step sequences of reactions
About the first question, particular reactions can need or produce energy, althrough, they are in the catabolic or anabolic pathway, but the overall pathway will probably be always exergonic and endergonic in the case of catabolic or anabolic reactions, respectively. http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/

now it depends. i will be applying a little chemistry here. suppose the prodducts formed in the process are lot more stable than the reactant s then the reaction is exothermic and vice versa. although i don't come to know of any suitable biological reactions but it depends on the products and reactant. you can always come to make out what reaction is what. like in photosynrhesis the reactants are lot more stable the co2 and h2o hence its an endotgermic reaction. if you look into ht esteps in the calvin cycle the gp is the most stable compound so the step that forms gp is exothermic and when it forms the 6 carbon compound its endo thermic.
it isn't what you do that matters but it is how you do it
to jwalin: it's all about equilibrium. If you had see full of ADP and phosphate with only few ATP, than you won't get any energy from that, but if will you have glucose-6P with like no GLc and phosphate, than you will get lot of energy from that
