I don't know what countries grow Golden Rice. I don't know if its dangerous or not, but I think the issue has become more of an anti-biotech issue for the eco-activists than anything else.
For those who don't know, Golden Rice is rice that has been genetically modified to produce prodigous amounts of Beta-Carotene, a precusor to Vitamin A, to help alleviate the serious Vit. A deficiency in Africa and the rest of the developing world. Its currently held up in all sorts of lawsuits and committees by eco-activists.
'It is futile to pretend to the public that we understand how an amoeba evolved into a man, when we cannot tell our students how a human egg produces a skin cell or a brain cell!'

From what I understand of the arguements against, there maybe a risk of decrease in biodeversity due to Genetically Modified Organisms(GMOs) getting "loose" and out competing other organisms analogous to invasive species. Also there is concerns about possable health risks to eating GMOs. I'd probably eat some becease I'm weird like that.
The benefits of Golden Rice are pure marketing hype, since the increased levels of Vitamin A are not enough to meet the daily requirements unless more than 5 pounds is consumed EVERY DAY. There is also no evidence that the provitamin in the rice can be absorbed and used in the body. There are other crops (dark green leafy veggies) that can be used to meet the dietary needs.
So given that the benefits are questionable, and the risks unknown - why bother?
Well of course rice shouldnt fulfill the daily requirements exclusively. I'm guessing it's more of a supplement. Plus wouldn't it be possible to increase the concentrations?
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Golden Rice ?? Genetically Modified Organisms(GMOs) for rice??So u all confirm they used in Thailand or India...Then this Golden Rice has been tested or not? and i also want to know that will increase the concentrations like mithrilhack said.
