Size of organisms

At H florensis the fact that they were small is independednt of the fact that they were smart. Look at it that way

How smart were they, compared to us, or is it too hard to tell?

Maybe we can make a comparison between normal bone and osteoporosis bone.... (I think that's too harsh... ). Actually not that harsh....

It would really be impossible for me to tell you, seeing as though I've never met one. And also because we don't really know what's intelligent but they certainly shared similarities to modern humans in behaviour- they found some really complex tools and stuff with them. Well, complex for...you know what, go read about it- it's really interesting.

yup..just read NG magazine...it has a lot of information there..I think the first edition of Indonesian version is talking about H.Floresiensis..

The only thing they had in mind when they said the H florensis was smarter than H erectus was the size of it's cranium.

Yes, Neanderthals had large brains, and yet may not have even been able to use language.

I know that brain volume is the factor...but don't forget, the complexity of brain is one of the factors also...beside, H.Floresiensis is one of the H.erectus lineage (in the life tree, H.floresiensis is located under H.erectus). So, no wonder that H.floresiensis is more developed than H.erectus....

I lived in Indonesia for three years. In Sumatra I saw and fotographed pigmy elephants. They did not have the space they have in India and Africa, so they were small. Strange tho, the largest iguana, the Komoda Dragon Lizard, lives only on the two small ilsands of Flores and Kamodo.

Do the anthropologists who are studying the Floreinses hominids actually say they had better brains? When "better" leads to extinction, it makes one wonder what cirteria they use!

By the way, the island of Forense is close to Bali. When I visited it, the older women were the only ones who still appeared in public with breasts explosed. The old practice is Anghor-Watt-like and Hindu. Yet the Island is part of Muslim Indonesia. Only because tourism supports the island (if not, at least, its aged, sagging breasts!) is Muslim Indonesia so tolerant of this. . .
