two different color eyes

I looked up the "W" term and it is "Waardenburg Syndrome" (think the spelling is correct). Apparently, it can present with phenotypic characteristics ranging from eyes with different colors (either two different colored eyes or one eye with two different colors) to light hair spots to hearing problems. Basically, the syndrome encompasses mutations in about 4-6 genes that give differing results. Also, as I was reading, it has dominant alleles (Autosomal Dominant), which means that there is a pretty good chance that the gene is carried by the at least one parent and passed to the offspring (I think it said 50% chance in the article I was reading....http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condi ... rgsyndrome). It is hard to say if someone has this syndrome without genetic testing.......so is it the reason for our eye coloration patterns.....who knows. They say if, you or someone else in your family has white patches of hair near the forehead (my cousin does) this may be a plausible cause. But, i wouldn't worry about it. Although it may sound a bit harsh (the word "syndrome"), it is usually just medical jargon for "we don't know what it is exactly, but we know what genes cause a range of characteristics". The way I see it, the coloration of our eyes is a gift from God that only a few of us has, which makes us unique.

My eyes are two differnt colors the right one is amber and the left one is a dark brown. It something i have had my whole life but its not genetic, the left one turned brown after a injury when i was 4. I love my eyes, and so do my friends and family. its a great conversation starter too. i just really get anyoned with the line"do you know your eyes are two siffernt colors?" or "hey, have your eyes always been like that?" or one tiem some girl that i have never met before came up to me in the mall and told me that i had put two differnt contacts in. that was actually kind of funny!!

I have two different coloured eyes. One Brown and one blue. i have done since i was born.
I was wondering if anyone new the probability of someone having different coloured eyes. Am i 1:1,000 or one in a million? This is the first time i've ver researched about my eyes. i havnt really thought Why? and how? As you'd expect, growing up people were like, :O you've got different coloured eyes. Coooooooooool. I never got bullied for it. so it didnt really bother me. I forget most of the time anyway. I have never met anyone with Different coloured eyes. I'd like for someone to help me here in the respect of, In the future will i have problems with my eyes? or is it just Faulty Genes? My mum has Brown Eyes and my dad has Blue eyes. Gives it away there. I would like to know how Rare it is! Nice to talk to all you Different eye coloured people!

There are some people whose bodies are the combination of two different eggs ... the eggs fuse. Thus, the blood type per the blood could be one type, and the blood type per the semen (yes, semen has its blood type) could be another; or, skin on the back could be of a different genetic type than skin on the foot, and so on. In theory, this could lead to a bi-colored eye. It's not what usually causes that, though. The genes for eye color are just tricky.

I am 52 Years old, the last of 4 children and the only girl. My father had hazel eyes and mother light brown. Most dual eyes colors I read about almost always include one blue and a green. Mine are brown green and possible hazel it’s really hard to define my color. My California license says hazel for a lack of knowing what to write on the application and it never occurred to me that it mattered until the other day a gal in the market said wow lady youreyes are one of the rarest people I heard about on this medical show ....Your eyes .......I have heard this all my life but funny when you catch someone not knowing which eye to stare at, they keep looking between both of them. I heard this has to do with twins that never split. I'd really like to look into this further since now I see from this group I have more unusual than most posted. Mine are not one color and another color and the vertical split is not even, its like Gods paint pallet all mixed up. My two children both have blue eyes neither of them inherited this.

I'm 17 years old, a middle child but also the only girl my dad has brown eyes my mom has blue eyes and mine change between greenish brown and bright blue brown or a mixture of both... They do look strangely similar to your description on occasion. I've gotten the same reaction.
Haha, when getting my license I said hazel they said blue.
I didn't know it had anything to do with twins.. I can't imagine why it would, but right on.

I have exactly the same, one eye is blue and the other is half blue / half brown. I read up on it and it is called heterochromia iridium or so it seems, I am no doctor but it describes my eyes perfectly, its to do with the pigment ! check out wikipedia or http://ask.yahoo.com/20020724.html, the have explaniations on it.

It also talks about how it can be inherited from certain medical syndromes or traumas, however I would like to think it is the pigment!

It is strange how common it seems to be, or more common then I thought anyways !

it's called waardenburg, and it is present in my family. only manifestation in my family is the shock of white hair at birth, and eyes of different/divided colors. below is a link:

hey my eyes arn't two diffrent colors but similar.both my eyes share two colors. brown on the inner part with a green outer I think what i have is called central herterochromia or herterochromia Iridis. nearly no one notice's since i wear glases and dont nececeraily talk to people that much. also i am the only one in my whole family. even down to aunt's, uncles, and cousin's. i haven't even meet a single person in my life with these types of eyes.

Hey, no ur not a freak cuz i have one blue eye and one green eye. I actually have no idea how it happened cuz everyone in my family has brown eyes (that i know of) and what's even more confusing is that i'm from Brazil so it's not like i'm closely related to people with blue or green eyes.

ive realised lately my eyes have been a lot more noticeable.. my right eye is sooo bluee and my left eye is soo green that one of my professors even noticed it during a class last semester. he sed it is heterochromia and that he has seen it before but it is raree.. he was still kind of amazed by it lol.. and then everyone in my class wanted to see and everything it was kind of cool and embarassing at the same time.. even at work one of my customers was like "omg your eyes are gorgeous are they 2 different colors?" i was like yeh lol she was like wow thats relle cool lol.. i like when people realise it lol.. but even my mom sed they have been so distinct lately. u can tell from further away then usual now. i love my eyes, theyre awesomee! and it makes me feel so unique, i hope my kids have it too lol
