simpleast wya to make animal live longerwhat is the simplest way to make animal live longer
1) knock or copy a special genes 2) extend Telomeres 3) Stem Cell 4)Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell: I think is (1). because (2) there is no much experiment on extend Telomeres and. (3) (4) is mostly about regrowing a organ.
Re:
Right, as there are vital organs which don't replicate cells (brain, muscles usually). So preventing telomere shrinking in these vital organs is pointless.
both muscles and brain cells make cells for their whole lifetime.
The point was that just because you can make an individual cell live longer that does not mean the whole organism will live longer. "As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
Re:
They do? I always thought they never did. The rate must not be nearly as high as other cells if they do divide.
neurons and adult mucle cells obviously do not divide, but both organs contain stem cells that make new cells through the lifetime of the individual.

Re: simpleast wya to make animal live longerThere has been some work recently suggesting restriction of calorie intake can increase life expectancy.*
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn8950-cutting-calories-may-boost-your-lifespan.html Its also been tested in rats with some interesting results And in one study the lifespan of yeast has been extended 1000% using the same method. *Though obviously keeping an animal on the brink of starvation its entire life isn't going to have positive effects on its quality of life, so not exactly something recommendable.
