Need info on grad programs that a biotech student can pursueHi!, I do not know anything about biotechnology field, but my problem is my sister is pursuing her bachelor degree in biotechnology in India. She is in her final year now, she would like to come to US to pursue her higher degree (masters). Can anyone suggest what are the various graduate programs that a biotechnology student can pursue and which one is having the best career?
I also have one more question, can a biotechnology student become a dentist or any kind of doctor? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million in advance!
To be a doctor, you need to go to Med School

Re:
No. After Med school you are a physician. You need to do a Ph.D to be a Doctor. Patrick

Ok, so yes you can be a PhD after studying biotechnology. If you want to be an M.D. you need to go to Med School.

Exactly. MD are not doctors. Unless they also have a Ph.D. But, back to the original point, no I cannot suggest any program in the US. But from what I have seen in Canada, it is likely that a program in biotechnology will cover the basic requirements to enter in Med school or dentistry school. On top of other requirements such as TOEFL (I am not sure if Indian citizen are required to take it) and some exams which name I do not remember.
As for the best career it completely depends on her definition of best. Academia is not very rewarding from a financial point of view, but it can be very much so intellectually. On the opposite, I doubt GP and dentist are extremely challenging intellectually, but they have their monetary rewards and can give a lot of feel-good sensations. So it really up to everyone to decide what are their priorities in order to decide what to do. Or if you want everything, there are also some MD PhD programs to get everything at the same time (money, science, help the humanity and sleep deprivation... Patrick
