Photosynthetic capacityHello,
Could you explain me the difference (or the similarity) between these terms : Rate of net photosynthesis Net assimilation rate (NAR) Light compensation point Maximum photosynthetic rate Is it possible, for exemple, to calculate the "Net assimilation rate" if I have the "Rate of net photosynthesis" and the "Light compensation point" of a plant ? Thank you very much Lucius
Well, what your asking is very difficult math your asking. I figure that you could probably find a way to convert between the two. Secondly, I did a quick search and I found everything you would need about those terms.
Maximum photosynthetic rate- rate where production = max capacity of plant to bond carbon into molecules and capture energy Light Compensation Point- minimum photosynthetic activity needed for respiration to occur and no loss of energy (stored) on the plant's part. Net assimilation- how well the plant does its job and makes energy Rate of Net Photosynthesis- rate at which plant undergoes photosynthetic activity without losing energy. Thats it in basic terms. I hope that gives you some inspiration on where to search next.
Re: Photosynthetic capacityI imagine then that the only means is to measure them directly on the plant and that there is no way to
calculate one of them from the others… thank you for your help
No problem. The equations may be able to be integrated to one another but otherwise you can figure out each based on the information that you collect by running a transpiration experiment.
