oxyacid valence electrons

Postby mattw » Tue Feb 27, 2007 7:11 pm

Chemistry question:

The oxyacids chloric acid, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid share 10 or 12 electrons with their surrounding (oxygen) atoms. How does this jibe with the octet rule?

Thank you!
