Protein translation questionAny help or suggestions on how to tackle this question would be greatly appreciated!
Transcription of mRNA occurs at a rate of 20 nucleotides per second and consumes 2 high energy phosphate bonds per nucleotide incorporated. Only 5% of a typical mRNA sequence will encode for the protein product. Translation of mRNA to protein occurs at a rate of 2 amino acids per second and consumes 4 high energy phosphate bonds per amino acid incorporated. The average molecular weight of proteins encoded by the human genome is 50kDa, although there are larger proteins, eg. Titin, which is involved in muscle activity and is 3000kDa. The average molecular weight of an amino acid is 110daltons. 1.How long will it take a muscle cell to translate an mRNA for an average protein?
divide the mass of the average protein by the molecular weight of an amino acid and then multiply that by the time it takes a protein to translate an amino acid. Good luck
