Scholarwiki.com would fit in great with biology-online.org and the two sites could collaborate.
Scholarwiki is a new WIKI that is: 1. A place for Potential students and professionals to find the institutions, faculty, staff and students associated with various academic disciplines. 2. A central resource for potential students regarding open positions, application processes and much more. 3. A resource to post ads for new faculty or staff job openings. 4. A place for faculty, professionals and students to discuss research topics, journal articles, methods/techniques and post links to their existing web pages (or create a Vitae web page directly in ScholarWiki!) 5. A place to buy/sell and trade equipment/services and 6. A place for the general public to view the latest news, discussions and research in various fields.
Please help build this site!!! We are first targeting Biologists and building from there. As the first contributors, you can help design and create the site also!
Scholarwiki is a place to find the people and institutions associated with disciplines and multidisciplinary groups(faculty students and staff). It is an easy way for those people to meet in a central location, discuss topics and journal articles, list job/student openings, trade/sell/buy equipment and services and list their information (by a vitae home page in scholarwiki) or a quick link to existing web pages. It is also a great way to discuss research methods and techniques.
Scholarwiki is also a great place for potential students to find the faculty and programs that interest them and even list thier resume/vitae within a discipline. It also has resources for learning about the application process, scholarships and to talk to others about applying and other aspects pertaining to new applicants (financial aid, details about a school, what to expect etc.)
Scholarwiki is also a centralized resource for grants/fellowships/scholarships either by posting or viewing.
What kind of collaboration do you have in mind? I would have to check with the admin, but generally we are very open to anything.
"As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
originally I had my site set up with my own phpp bulletin board. But why start a new discussion board if we could just link discussion pages in scholarwiki to individual forums in biology-online (at least for thelife sciences section). In turn, people who use biology-online could contribute to scholarwiki.com. Many of you familiar with wikipedia already know the power and ease of a wiki site!! Additionally, since scholarwiki is a new site, everyone who wants to could not only contribute but also help design the site since the templates i have are not set in stone!
tasks would be to monitor certain pages and make sure people are adding things correctly according to templates and to prevent vandalism. It would require almost no time at all! Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
needs information to become useful though. I like the templates too and the fact one can potentially list scholarships grants fellowships and jobs! how about linking with [deleted by mods]. One can link any job source here actually!! Another thing i like is the materials and methods section! this could be an excellent database source for methods including ASTM and standard methods
