How can smoking affect on fetal? what compounds are present in cigrette?

Over 100 known carcinogens? Fiber glass? I find it amazing that people smoke cigarettes in the first place, much less do so while pregnant.

Forgive the bluntness, but I personally find smoking one of the dumbest things people can do........not to say people that smoke are dumb. On the contrary. Most smokers know what chemicals they are putting into their body. But where nicotine is one of the most addiciting substances known to man, it is very difficult for them to stop.

I recently read an article about a farmer who used selective breeding and genetic engineering to make a new breed of tobacco plants which had nicotine but not the other carcinogens. It was an business failure since the American education system only taught kids(and adults) that cigarettes are bad because of nicotine.

Since then the company has made a type of cigarette without nicotine but with everything else. Sales have been steady. I don't remember the name of the company off the top of my head but it's ranked around 7th in the world.

Anybody got any practical advice on how i can convince my father to stop smoking? I tried everything... He has a by-pass last year and he still stomkes... and he smokes a lot

i don't do addiction studies untill last year, if he lasts i'll let you know then.

in the mean time try getting some books out on addiction and the methods rehab centres use...
but i see it being extremely difficult if he doesn't actually want to quit.

That is the problem.. The one thing rehab centers do is do not give you any cigarettes, which i can not do
