microorganismhi everyone...
actually i'm new here in this forum.. i'm a math teacher in primary school... but then this math teacher had been ask to teach science next year... and i really think that is a problem for me... because i think that i have lack of science knowledge.. i hope evryone here can help me improve myself in science.. first question, is virus a microorganism?? second question, can somebody give me useful url where i can learn science? thanks everyone for your coorperation.. i really appreciate it
you can start out with our tutorial section: http://www.biology-online.org/tutorials/home.htm
"Why you care about small things? World very simple place...
World only have two things: Things you can eat and things you no can eat." - Quina Quen (ffix)
for an overview (about viruses) check out these links
http://www.biology-online.org/dictionary/Virus and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virus "Why you care about small things? World very simple place...
World only have two things: Things you can eat and things you no can eat." - Quina Quen (ffix)
i read trough WIKIPEDIA i found this statement..
"Microorganisms can be bacteria, fungi, archaea or eukaryotes, but not viruses and prions because they are generally classified as non-living." and i found this in biology-online.. A microscopic organism, those of medical interest include bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi and protozoa. Retrieved from "http://www.biology-online.org/dictionary/Microorganisms" So.. I don't know which one is the correct definition.. i am affraid that i'll explain the wrong thing to my student... can somebody please help me about this...?
I have read that the reason that most scientists classify a virus as not alive is basicly because it can't grow or reproduce on its own w/o host.
"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these".
~ George washington Carver
Yes, viruses are classified as non-living things, since they can't live without hosts. Viruses have a really close realtionship with microorganisms, but once again it's stated that "viruses are not living things, thus they're not organisms" .
Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
thanks a lot... for all the advise..
sorry for my late reply because of internet connection problem.. so... maybe i will explain to my student a simple way... that they should remember for the exam.. because in our textbook they said, the process that microorganism (virus, fungi, bacteria and protozoa) undergo are : 1 - breathe 2 - grow 3 - moves thats all... but for the knowledge, i will let them to know the discussion on that matter thanks a lot, maniesss
When you do your background research, don't expect the rules in biology to be as precise as mathematics. It can be frustrating to people who like structure in their material.
For instance, although there is disagreement over whether viruses are alive, even biologists that think they are would be reluctant to call them micro-organisms. But they're usually included in the grouping "microbes."
According to my knowledges, viruses is classified as the borderline of livingthings and non- livingthings. Viruses is considered a livingthings because it can undergoes reproduction in a host. Viruses is classified as non-living things because it do not carry out any metabolism process such as respiration, excretion and digestion.
