Oncogenes VS Tumor Suppressor Genes- Please Help!!

Postby chuka1212 » Mon Dec 11, 2006 7:39 pm

I read that cancers caused by oncogenes are inherited dominantly, while cancers caused by tumor supressor genes are inherited recessively. Does anyone know why this is? Your help is appreciated!

Tumor suppressor genes are to reduce the chance of cell proliferation.
If one of the two alleles will be mutated then also the other allele can do its work and no cance.
But if unfurtunately the other allele becomes defective then game over.

It is the mutation which determines whether it is dominant or recessive.
