Sneezing...

Postby Dr. Genius » Mon Dec 11, 2006 6:28 pm

I'd like to question about what happens in your body as it prepares to sneeze??? Why do some people "hold the sneeze"??? And why is it considered "unhealthy" to un-sneeze???

That's all I have ^_^
Thanks a lot

Physiologically, sneezing is caused by muscular activity, contraction-relaxation thing. Immunologically, sneezing is a way to expell foreign particles, which can be harmful for the body system. That's why sneezing is healthy because our body, imune system, responds properly to prevent entering antigens, which could be pathogenic stuff.

When ones started to get flu, they sneeze a lot. That's because flu virus comes into the body system via airways. Nose, which contains sensitive receptors, mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue, including IgA (epithelial antibody that's resident on mucus layer) will recognize the virus and other particles. With a help of cilia movement from pseudocolumnar epithelia, particles will be expel out as sneezing
