Hey, I got a couple of questions to help me in my grade 11 courses, any help is appreciated, thanks!
--How does gender affect Tidal Volume, expiratory reserve volume,
and/or vital capacity
--How would living in high altitudes influence tidal volume and/or vital
--How would increasing your vital capacities and expiratory reserve volume
improve your general health?
sry guys i tried and i tried but these questions have me stumped!!!!
(tidal volume is amount of air inhaled and exhaled in a normal breathing movement)
(expiratory reserve volume is the additional volume that can be forced out of the lungs beyond a regular exhalation)
Thank you to the Biology-Online community
1) the question assumes that the female is smaller than the male. If the male lungs are larger they will have a bigger capacity. But if you take a male midget and an average size woman the tide will change.
2) When you live at a higher altitude you will need to breath deeper to get the same amout of oxygen as you would living at sea level. At higher altitude there is less pressure and the air is less dense. For example...say you farted in a car(living at sea level) versus farting in a classroom(living at high altitude) you would need to breath alot more in the classroom in order to get the full effect of the fart.
3) If you take in more oxygen your red blood cells will have an easier time delivering oxygen to the various parts in your body. If your body gets more than enough oxygen your red blood cells can go on vacation leaving more room for white blood cells that fight disease and infection. The more white blood cells the healthier you will generally be.
Hope this helps.
Question 3: By increasing the vital capacities and expiratory reserve volume will improve your general health maybe cos the body will breathe in more oxygen (for chemical reactions to take place etc.) and the heart needn't pump too hard in order to pass the blood round the body. The heart needn't pressurise itself and thus it improves the health of a person.
I am not sure whether my answer is correct though...
=I'm just a kid=
