Re: Green Mosquito===Photos AvailableHi;
I was standing in the lot at a car dealership in Scottsdale AZ two days ago (5/29/2008) when I felt something on my wrist. I looked down, and it looked like a small bright green mosquito. I've never seen anything like it before. Do you happen to know what this thing is?
*Joking*
if you ask me, its probably some scientist who spilled some chemical X in a river with mosquito larvae.. Ooo Yuck ;P

Re: Green Mosquito===Photos AvailableI am writing from London in the UK. We have so many green mosquitos here it's unbelievable. Just last week we had 12 in my living room. They tend to swarm and there are many to be found along the river. Any ideas on where I can get these identified or if it would be of any interest to anyone that they are swarming all over London?
Any ideas would be greatfully received
Re: Green Mosquito===Photos AvailableOh and they do bite, or at least the ones in London do, and there numbers are increasing year on year here as well.
Re: Green Mosquito===Photos Availablehey sachin,
i stay in hyderabad. i saw, today, loads of green mosquitoes in a lawn in my college... this cannot be a mutant for sure. i'll try to snap some photos and upload them soon, may be within a week at most. when the roach goes extinct, you know the end is very near.
Re: Green Mosquito===Photos Availablethis is it; the best i could manage in this magnification. as you can see, it's not entirely green.
this definitely belongs to order Diptera, but mosquito or something else, that i cannot tell. if it's a mosquito, it should be male. i just realised, since it's population has shot up (like sachin has suggested) with the onset of the monsoon, that this could in fact be a mosquito and not a kind of fly. when the roach goes extinct, you know the end is very near.
Re: Green Mosquito===Photos AvailableI live in Brooklyn, NY (Williamsburg is the neighborhood I live in) and starting on saturday, Aug 16, I noticed a dead green insect on the ground. When I was cleaning it up, I noticed that it looked like a mosquito. Later that night, I started to find myself getting bit and couldn't figure out what it was till I saw the green mosquito on my shoulder. And in the course of just ONE day, I have about 20 bites all over my body.
I killed one about an hour ago and it popped with blood and I realized that it was mine. Whatever this insect maybe, I need to find a repellent or trap for it. They're hard to kill when you see them, cause they're so fast and stealth. I turned on my ac in order to make the temperature of the apt cooler, so we'll see if that helps.
