Global and Local alignment.

Hi everybody!
I have been looking for some interesting information about local and global alignment and I've found a lot of that online. Still, I have some doubts with the question " which one is better in looking for biological meaning from protein sequences?". It seems to me, that local alignment is better, because it is more useful in database searching with aligning domains of proteins, but maybe I am wrong...Let me know, I will be grateful...
