Evolution of birds

Postby David George » Thu Aug 24, 2006 3:51 pm

Here is some great news I just got hold of a
new Idea of the evolution of beak.Or I say it bones
and beaks. The nostril in a reptile is found in the
lower region of the snout. The nostril in a reptile is
seen in the upper part of the beak. And also here is a
ratio that I took Measurement from Beak tip to nostril
centre and eye to nostril cetre. here is the ratio.

Name Ratio
bald eagle 1:1
bateleur eagle 1:1
Heron 3:1
Great egret 2.30:1
duck 1.27:1
This ratio was taken from pictures and must have some mistakes.
I observered that there was a fall in temperature in the end
of the jurassic and the beginig of the cretaceous[You can find a graph in the cambrian evolution topic that says about the temperature].This also
the period were many feathered dinosaurs fossils were found..
Birds have keratin gamma which is different from what lizards
[keratin alpha and beta] have. They must have evolved this feature
during this period. The reason for the evolution of beak must be
to replace the snout thet had keratin alpha and beta.Or this was
the period in which bird like reptiles lived on rainforest like
regions were the sunlight is trapped hence these species climbed
up trees and spread their wings to recieve sunlight this means that
they had partial cold and warm blood. They might have got used to trees
and the evolution of enclosed seeds was a main reason for the evolution
of beak. The data above must be wrong let me edit it in a days time.
